New Business Wastemaster Pacific Launches Bold Environmental Solution For Food Waste In Australia

Melbourne – December 5, 2018

As many businesses look for ways to limit their contribution to global warming and their impact on the environment, a newly formed Australian company, WasteMaster Pacific, has launched an innovative solution that will reduce the amount of food waste going to landfill and redirect it to biogas for fertiliser.  The patented WasteMaster system reduces the weight and volume of food waste by up to 80 per cent, producing a compost-like and odourless residual material. This residual material can then be converted to biomethane, a renewable source of green power. Globally, food waste causes approximately 14 per cent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. Eliminating global food waste would save 4.4 million tonnes of carbon emissions each year, the equivalent of taking one in four cars off the road.

“The Federal Department of Environment and Energy estimates more than five million tonnes of food waste ends up as landfill each year, which is an overwhelming contributor to Australia’s CO2 emissions. But there’s some good news: for every two tonnes of food waste diverted from landfill sites, we can avoid 3.2 tonnes of equivalent landfill greenhouse gas emissions,” said Craig Dugan, CEO of Optimal Group and director of WasteMaster Pacific.

“WasteMaster provides a quick, easy, clean and green system for the management of food waste, which has the potential to reduce Australia’s future carbon emissions. This is why we were so keen to invest in the technology when we first saw it,” he added.

In addition to providing equipment installation and training, WasteMaster Pacific will manage all collection services for its Australian clients, guaranteeing that all WasteMaster-processed food waste is converted into clean energy. The launch of WasteMaster Pacific Pty Ltd is the result of a joint venture between Optimal Group and Green Eco Technologies. The newly formed company’s mission is to deliver optimised energy solutions for modern businesses.

Mr Gordon Hoen, CEO of Green Eco Technologies UK, said, “We are excited to partner with Optimal, which is an established leader in the Australian energy market, with strong credentials in green technologies. We believe they are a perfect partner to help us establish a strong presence in Australia, building on our success in the UK. Optimal’s strong technical capabilities and national service network will allow us to hit the ground running.”

The WasteMaster system was launched at Waste Expo Australia in October and created an enormous amount of industry interest. WasteMaster Pacific has begun the manufacture of the WasteMaster 400 in Australia, with the first units due for installation by the end of the year. WasteMaster Pacific, which is owned 50 per cent by Optimal Group and 50 per cent by Green Eco Technologies, located at Optimal’s head office in Mulgrave, Victoria.
