The City of Whitehorse receives a high commendation at the 2014 Victorian Engineering Excellence awards for the new Aqualink Box Hill Aquatic Centre.
Optimal congratulates the City of Whitehorse, who have just received a high commendation at the 2014 Victorian Engineering Excellence awards for the new Aqualink Box Hill Aquatic Centre. Designed with sustainability at its core, the centre features a Capstone Microturbine co-generation system, producing low emission power and heating for the facility.
Whitehorse Mayor Councillor Sharon Ellis said the Victoria Engineering Excellence Awards recognise the contribution engineers make to the community through their innovations, teamwork and creativity. “Council is pleased to announce that Aqualink Box Hill was highly commended for its environmental sustainability, originality, community benefit and best practice engineering,” Cr Ellis said.
Cr Ellis said Aqualink Box Hill was meticulously designed and built to ensure its long-term sustainability.
“Some of the many sustainability initiatives at Aqualink Box Hill include an innovative temperate control system to reduce evaporation and condensation, wood wool panelling insulation and full sealing of the building to reduce energy loss, efficient water filtration, solar hot water, automated LED lighting, water tanks for flushing urinals and toilets, maximisation of natural lighting and more,” Cr Ellis said.
