Optimal’s Entry into the BESS Market

Optimal Group Australia (OGA) is proud to announce that we are officially entering the Australian Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) market through a partnership with Delta Electronics, a global leader in power and energy management solutions. With one project already secured and a strong pipeline of additional opportunities underway, this marks a significant milestone in the company’s continued expansion within the clean energy sector.

The partnership is marked by Optimal’s first standalone BESS project, which deploys Delta Electronics’ all-in-one (AiO) BESS solution. The system integrates a power conditioning system (PCS), advanced battery technology with a built-in battery management system (BMS), and a thermal management solution within a compact, modular design.

Optimal Group has developed microgrid projects for many years, some of which have included battery energy storage, as well as first-of-a-kind ultracapacitor storage.

Optimal Group has developed microgrid projects for many years, some of which have included battery energy storage, as well as first-of-a-kind ultracapacitor storage, but this project serves as Optimal’s first standalone BESS project. As a result of our experience with microgrids and stand-alone power systems, we feel well-positioned to enter this market.

Delta’s class-leading AiO BESS is engineered for high efficiency, reliability, and space optimisation. Liquid-cooled battery modules maintain consistent operating temperatures, enhancing performance and extending battery life, while the system’s robust design enables operation in demanding environmental conditions. The scalable platform supports a wide range of use cases, including grid-tied and off-grid applications such as backup power, peak shaving, load shifting, PV self-consumption, and PV smoothing. Typical applications include commercial buildings, campuses, manufacturing facilities, shopping centres, EV charging infrastructure, and aged care facilities.

Delta Electronics is a global leader in power management and smart green solutions. This partnership will see Delta provide its proven BESS technology, while Optimal delivers end-to-end project engineering, integration, and execution – ensuring systems are tailored to customer sites and operational requirements.

Typical applications include campuses, manufacturing facilities, shopping centres, etc.

“We are excited to receive our first significant contract in this rapidly growing market,” said Optimal CEO Craig Dugan. “We expect BESS systems providing energy shifting, spinning reserve, or system capacity will be a major part of our solutions for our customers into the future. There is a gap in the market, where many companies that manufacture or sell BESS products are not set up to provide the engineering support to integrate the BESS into mid-size customer sites or the ability to execute small to medium complex projects. Optimal has a long history of delivering sophisticated turnkey energy projects, utilising our in-house project engineering and project management capabilities. There are many companies that cater to the grid-scale BESS market and to the domestic home battery market, but not many companies have offerings in between. This is where most of our BESS solutions will live – targeted at our usual customer base of commercial and industrial companies.”

“At Delta, we believe progress happens when world-class technology is paired with deep local expertise,” said Tom Hew, ANZ Country Manager, Delta Electronics Australia. “Our partnership with Optimal Group Australia brings together Delta’s proven, energy-efficient BESS platform and Optimal’s strong capability in engineering and project delivery. Together, we are enabling commercial and industrial customers to build more resilient, efficient, and sustainable energy systems, solutions that are practical today and scalable for the future.”
